Smoking
causes more than a third of accidental fire deaths in people's homes. If
you smoke, following these simple rules could save your life: ·
Fit a smoke alarm.
Make sure it has the British Standard kitemark. Test it at least ·
Never leave a lit cigarette, cigar or pipe
unattended. It might fall on to an armchair or
a carpet that could catch fire and give off dense
smoke and fumes. ·
Never smoke in a chair if you think you may doze
off. ·
Always keep matches and lighters out of the reach
of children. ·
Before you go to bed, make sure nothing has been
left still burning. · Before you empty an ashtray, make sure the contents are cold. · Never smoke in bed.
