| Equipment & Vehicles |
The maintenance of the fleet and operational equipment is part of the remit of the newly created Corporate Services Department which is part of Operational Support. The Isle of Man Fire & Rescue Service operates its own in house workshop facility based at Douglas Station. Two Workshop Technicians are employed full time. We operate a mixed fleet of Volvo, MAN, Pinzgauer and Mercedes Benz vehicles in various guises. With the exception of specialist equipment such as Aerial Ladder Platforms or Palfinger cranes all vehicles and equipment are maintained and repaired in house. The Technicians have expertise in pump, generator, ladder and hydraulic cutting equipment as well as the base vehicle chassis and bodywork and the workload is varied and diverse. All main servicing is carried out at the main Douglas Workshops with safety inspections and minor repairs carried out at the various stations. The Appliances have been built by a number of leading UK bodybuilders including Angloco and E1 and are constructed to a high specification. The vehicles are expected to remain in service for at least twenty years and the oldest vehicle still in service with the Brigade is a 1989 Pinzgauer 718K 6 x 6 Light Water Tender originally based at Peel which now functions as part of our operational reserve.
