Welcome to the official website of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service. I hope you’ll find the site both interesting and informative and that you enjoy finding out about the variety of work undertaken by the Fire and Rescue Service in keeping our Island safe from fire and other emergencies.

Traditionally, the Service has been recognised for providing a rapid response to the ever increasing range of emergencies to which it’s called; be they fires, flooding, road traffic collisions, industrial accidents or chemical spillages etc. This also includes our somewhat unique specialist teams who amongst other skills will provide response capability to high rise and confined space scenarios requiring rope rescue techniques, fast water and river rescue scenarios requiring our water rescue team and incidents of lost or marooned persons requiring assistance from our hill search team. These coupled with our recently acquired skills in building collapse incident management and specialist rescue techniques give you a flavour of the wide variety of capabilities available throughout our workforce.

In 2006 the Service was reorganised to better enable it to recognise and react to opportunities that could reduce unnecessary injuries, losses and fatalities through a more integrated approach to both Prevention and Protection with a much greater emphasis being placed upon the ethos of ‘prevention being better than cure’.

Accordingly, in addition to providing an insight into the fascinating world of operational response capability, the content of our website will also hopefully provide you with a range of information and advice on how to stay safe in your home, advice for maintaining business fire safety and advice on the relevant legislative requirements in respect of certain premise uses and activities.

Our website will be regularly updated on what’s happening across the Service and the work we are undertaking within the community, providing you with relevant safety advice and give you an opportunity to comment and tell us what you think about the Fire and Rescue Service.   I firmly believe that it’s your Service and, with your help, I want to make it the best it possibly can be.
